The 2004 psychological thriller Taking Lives starring Angelina Jolie, Ethan Hawke and Kiefer Sutherland was released on home video in two different cuts. The theatrical and director’s cut were released on DVD but on Blu-ray only the director’s cut was included.

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004)

“If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball,” said Coach Patches famously in the 2004 comedy Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. This comedy favorite was originally released in the US on DVD as PG-13. The international version was only seconds longer but included more vulgar words.

Paul (2011)

The dynamic British duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost teamed up with Seth Rogen for the extraterrestrial comedy Paul in 2010. The Amy Schumer and Judd Apatow comedy Trainwreck scored over $100 million dollars at the box office and is looking at more on Blu-ray and DVD.

Screenrant: “Do you envision alternate versions for the DVD — similar to the Anchorman release — or do you consider this release the definitive edit?”
Judd Apatow: “We have an unrated version which will be longer, but this will be the definitive version.”

Mimic (1997)

Mimic is Guillermo del Toro’s sophomore film, and his first project in Hollywood after premiering Cronos in 1993. The production was quite bumpy and Del Toro was unhappy with the released version of the film. In 2010 Del Toro talked about making a director’s cut of the film and in 2011 it was released on Blu-ray.

The Wolfman (2010)

The Universal monster classic The Wolf Man from 1941 was rebooted/remade in 2010 by Joe Johnston. The production was originally supposed to be headed by Mark Romanek but creative differences caused him to leave the project. Four weeks prior to filming Johnston was hired with fully stocked cast and crew.

The Wolfman was released on Blu-ray with the theatrical cut and a unrated director’s cut. Johnston confirmed with This or That Edition which edition he prefers:

I Am Legend (2007)

Richard Matheson’s novel I Am Legend was filmed for the third time with Will Smith in 2007. Earlier versions were The Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price and The Omega Man with Charlton Heston. I Am Legend was released on Blu-ray with an “alternate theatrical cut” with a different ending.

The Divide (2011)
